In 1938, fission is discovered theoretically. In 1939, it's intentionally caused in a lab and observed and reported on. Within two years, we had the first light bulbs on a string being powered by a little bit test nuclear reactor. Then you can just see this rapid ramp up where almost every year through the 60s brought a new world record for most powerful unit at a power plant ever.
