The Importance of Reason in Doctrine

In his preaching, Edward sought to do all that was consistent with the infinite importance and infinite loveliness of the subject matter. Let's look at his use of reason as a tool for doctrine and exegesis in spite of his great hesitation about reason unless it is informed by the proposition of Scripture. When guided by right propositions or when reasoning up on material that is given us it can be very useful. A philosophy is constructed by the process of reasoning but reason itself operates on the basis of knowledge available to it.
