The Mystery of the Younger Dryas

This is known through studies of sediment at the bottom of the North Atlantic. There are actually lots of periods when this lake would bust free and carry lots of rocks. But it's possible that the fresh water from that lake was enough to screw up the Gulf Stream. Ironically the melting led Europe to get a lot colder because the Gulf Stream was blocked.
