The Importance of Ecstasy

By the end of the story, a notion that we recognize from the white people actually comes into play. Macon is quite clear that he has very little time for the regularly established churches, but has all the time in the world for religion. Religion at least that corresponds to his own notion of what religion properly is - mood of reverence touched with ecstasy. And one thing he learns is that this new life that he has chosen, he and his wife have chosen for themselves is not without its dangers.
