The number one thing you have to do to be a leader with sustained success is understand the advice of machiavelli, who said, the first job of a leader is to keep his or her job. You cannot have sustained success if you get your ass fired. And so therefore, things like branding, things like net working, and continuing to build relationships with important, intelligent people can help you become more intelligent than you are.

Her own status was enhanced through her association with high-status people. Then she started writing and publishing her work. This attracted people to her.
- A brand needs coherence. Have a narrative and tell it repeatedly.
