The Unpredictability of Being a Dad

I wanted to be a dad who was available and home as much as possible also. I felt a lot of stress, you know, staying up late nights and being on deadline. Magazine was a fantastic place and I learned from so many different editors and writers there. But it was a place where people were doing a lot of their work independently sitting in front of a computer screen. So the idea of being in an academic environment with colleagues and with students appealed to me a lot. It capitalized on some of my strengths or what I thought would be my strengths. And so that, that was some of what drew me in that direction.
