The Advantages of QSFP Interfaces

In a traditional switch, you have these QSFP interfaces that sit in the front and then you need to put your ASIC like right there next to them. And so if you have this 300, 400, 500 watt ASIC that sits right behind a load of QSFP interface that is also, you know, 100, 200, 300 watts of power, you have a very large amount of heat at work. So we cut the board into two pieces, we actually defined an interface between these two boards. These two boards were actually designed sequentially that weren't even designed so much in tandem.
