The Evolution of Depression
A lot of depression research in the last few years has come to believe that there's a really strong evolutionary advantage to depression. The theory is that we will oftentimes become depressed when our brain figures out before we do that we're putting effort into the wrong area. And so if you're depressed, one of the things that can really help is to give yourself permission to say, am I putting energy and effort into things that I really don't care about?
