Is There a Future for Deep Learning?
When you say nearly everyone is using deep learning, so how did you feel when that shock was going through the community in 2019? It's one of those funny things where I think on the data sets that are available to researchers, it's probably true that deep learning isn't necessarily the best solution. The Rexas challenges that the team worked on this year, and even last year and the year before, it's a mixture of extra boost and neural models. "It's very hard right now to do deep learning, but that's a big part of what my team is working on at Merlin," he says.
