The Purability of the Occupied
In the 1970s and '80s, Peruvian students were inspired by a book called "The purability of the oppressed" They decided to use their education to help poor people in Lima's barriada area. The first thing they learned was how to alphabetize; it wasn't about what they wanted to teach them but what did they need? And so we began doing that with them. We tried to find out more things they needed.
