Why Aren't Shepherds?
First century shepherds were despised and had very little or no respect in society. At its root, they simply weren't trusted. If you see a shepherd coming, you walk on the other side of the road because you don't want to get too close to someone who is so unclean. Finally, they were known as social outcasts, the bottom rung in society like a tax collector or a dung sweeper.
