Many of the things we divide ourselves over are silly, at least from the outside. All manner of brand and sports team loyalty can lead to division that doesn't necessarily make much sense on closer inspection. The most bitter, hateful, divisive struggles in the world tend to be between people who actually share a lot of things in common but have some difference that really appears minor to outsiders.
