When the Christians took over Europe, they kind of syncretized all the pagan beliefs with their Christian beliefs. They would engage in child sacrifice that often involved torture of the children before you would sacrifice them. Blood cults who would kidnap children, sacrifice them, sexually assault them as part of their rituals were shockingly horrific. And so if you're the church and you find something like that and you find that a bunch of people are into it, you know, there was the famous case of a French knight who fought in Hundred Years War Who had Joan of Arc as its mascot.
