Can Artificial Intelligence Replicate Consciousness?

Is it really achievable to think that as sophisticated as artificial intelligence is and potentially will become, can it ever replicate consciousness? Well, yeah, there's a debate about that. The difficult thing is that we don't even know what consciousness is. So the notion that I think we can create machines that are conscious does seem kind of mystical.
