The Dialogue Between the City and the Soul of the Individual

Plato argues that justice is not power alone. It requires knowledge and reflection, and specifically of the good in itself. And attaining knowledge of the good is a virtue, and injustice is a vice. The whole dialogue is around a good way of life versus tyrannical way of life. There is a resonance between the type of regime in which people live and the character of the people within it. If you want a democracy, you need a democratic ethos. M if you want a republic,you need a conception of civic obligation citizenship. Then authoritarian states likewise are going to create an authoritarian ethos in which people become increasingly governable. So there analogy between the city and the soul of the individual
