It was the best kept secret in astronomy. I had no idea that that discovery was going to be made, but there was thousands of co-authors on the original paper. And so I don't know how that many people were able to keep a secret that big for that long and that we all sort of found out about it on the same day. But everyone knew that there was a binary neutron star merger. A supernova had been observed. People were following up the radio remnant for weeks, months afterwards. In fact, it was almost too perfect. It would be very unlikely to get something that's spectacular in the next few years.
