Is there an element of representative a character here in the democratic sublime? Think of te, you know, the beauty and sublimity of that. I don't think anything that i'm doing in this book denies the importance of political aesthetics to institutional, native institutions such as civic architecture or memorials. But really, it is true that i am making an argument about the democratic sublime which is very much anchored in this newly reconceptualized role that crowds and large gatherings of the people out of doors play for either democratic or democratizing politics.
