What It Means to Be an Ottoman

At the turn of the 14th century, there is no evidence that the Ottomans were noticeable. They were at best households in a tribal nomadic society only in the 15th century. The term Ottoman grew beyond being a reference to a household and it was increasingly elaborated and filled with important content. Three most significant components of being an Ottoman from the 15thcentury onwards were one was being a roomy; they were rulers of the former Roman Empire so their connection to the land meant 'roomy'
