We have data on the percentage of countries with constitutional constraints. These include term limits, whether there's a rule in the Constitution about how the president can be dismissed. And we find that the Percentage of countries with these types of constitutional executive constraints have remained very stable over time since the 90s and early 2000s. The most common way that incumbents remove term limits is by asking the ruling party in the legislature to amend the Constitution.
