We can conceive of things acting for an end. If there were not real finalities and things, would we even have a concept of finality? An objection to that could be, well, we are intelligent beings. So we act for an end in an intelligent manner. When I see a goal and I take steps to undertake it, I'm doing something. And when fire heats, it's doing something such that if I didn't achieve my goal or a fire didn't heat, what I was striving to do would be frustrated.
