American employment is increasingly subject to government permission. Steve Slovinsky of the Pacific Legal Foundation and Stephen Doane, a Republican state representative in Kentucky talk about opportunities to cut red tape that is occupational licensing. The goal should be overall, I think, for most states to reduce the burden of the licensing, basically meaning reduce the number of hours that are required to get a license. And frankly, I would say even getting rid of licenses that have no purpose anymore.
