The Story of Clever Hands in Machine Learning
The story of clever hans is, i think, compelling from so many angles. He was genuinely a hoarse celebrity for performing these kindsof tasks that were defined as akin to human intelligence. And then, of course, it was later shown that he was not, in fact, performing these tasks. But was instead responding to the cues of his trainer. It tells us something about the relationship between desire, illusion, action, spectacle and ultimately intelligence itself.
