Children are much more likely to prioritize humans and animals lives similarly than adults. This is not just in the context of speciesism that we're finding this stuff. We've also found this with perceptions of robots where children are more likely to grant moral worth to robots than adults are. So social learning could be one possible explanation but there's a few different ideas about what might be going on here.
