Macbeth and the Dagger
The dagger Macbeth sees before him is terrifyingly real in its unreality. Lady Macbeth drugs the drunken guards protecting King Duncan's room in anticipation for the deed and despite her bold words we see her struggle with the deed though she would have us believe that it is the attempt and not the deed that confounds them. Many of our greatest poets such as Milton Homer composed their masterpieces whilst blind but they possessed an inward light and a vivid inner reality which could compete and defeat any sense of objective external reality which does not exist.
