David Lynch - Is He a Filmmaker?

David Bianculli: David Lynch is one of the very few filmmakers who explodes the Manny Farber White Elephant art versus termite art paradigm. He has become like in some ways even more of a cult object than when he was a cult filmmaker. There's no pervasive anti-David Lynch sentiment, every more people love him and it's fascinating. Inland Empire is incredibly unpleasant but everybody loved it afterglow.
