What Is the Original Status of Women in India?

What we are to day is the result of one thousand years of foreign occupation. So what was the true original status of women in india society? The most sacred, the holiest, religious text that we have in indian civilization, the rigveda. Can you think of any cultural or religious text anywhere in the world which is to a large extent composed by women? And she was not simply a commander telling people and men what to do.
