What Did Dante Have Wanted in a Poem?

Dante was exiled from florence under false pretences for political purposes in the early fourteenth century. The poet's world view, his expectation of what was normal in terms of violence and punishment were very different to our own today. But i think that also, we come back around a full circle to that idea that people generally have a lot of similarities in terms of the experience of being alive in the world.
