Hunter Infected Hisself With Gonorrhea to See if It Would Turn Into Syphilis

Hunter infected himself by making cuts on his penis and applying cuts from a patient with gonorrhea onto the wounds. Unfortunately, Hunter didn't realise the patient was infected with both gonorrhea and syphilis. His hypothesis basically appeared to be correct that gonorrhea was an early stage of syphilis because he got infected with both. So when he published his data in a treat C on the venereal disease in 1786, it's now considered that he basically set back our understanding of sexually transmitted disease by several decades.
