The Trajectory of Pragmatism

Pragmatism was born out of a desire to not have views of truth that invoked any kind of certainty. Once the Cold War came along, people wanted certainty again and so pragmatism was in the dog house. John Dewey actually pick up the idealism of Royce and others and present a kind of quasi-pragmatism which I want to argue really derailed pragmatism as a movement. But you have the view of Lewis and Purse continue through American philosophy in the hands of Quine, Goodman, Sellers, and many others today.
