How Do You Retrieve Information?

When i'm in a conversation, i'm constantly referring myself back to previous parts of the conversation to create connections. It's something i've always done, which is why i think i remember a lot of conversations and lectures or stuff. And when i say i don't know, it's because i don't consciously know.
