The Mount of Olives Is the Site of Judgment
The mount of olives is the site from which judgment is declared upon temple mount. The movement between the two mountains then has a theological import. And so jesus traps those seeking to trap him, as he does so on several occasions, by asking a question in response to a question. Peter lightheart observes that this puts the chief priests and the elders in a difficult position. Either way they answer, they are caught in an unfavourable comparison. But Jesus is wiser than the serpents, having responded in a shrewd way to their opening gambet.
