Leopold and Loeb Franks were sentenced to death by hanging for the murder of their father. Judge John R. Cavarly ruled that they should get life in prison, with an additional 99 years for kidnapping. In his speech Cavarly said: "I am pleading for a time when hatred and cruelty will not control the hearts of men" The judge also called out Robert Crow's attack on Darrow during the hearing.
