The Tension of the War Poetry

Fran Britt says shearston's conversion to Catholicism had a profound effect on his creative life as well. She thinks that the tension of his spiritual searchings, his loneliness and his need for something in the 40s and early 50s produce a kind of tension which I think results in poems that are not dismissible but very good. The ten years or the seven years before he becomes a Catholic are interesting because they're full of conflict and tension. And those are the poems that I admire. Next week we'll be talking about Renaissance Astrology.
