Some of this traces back to the 2008 financial crisis. It was a cynical arranged marriage between two parties who didn't really love each other, but they got in bed together anyway. We effectively expect that we'll occupy Wall Street goes home in the new left with its climate change and diversity and equity inclusion and identity politics obsessions. That's the grand bargain. But if the US government actors aren't going to step up to address the existential challenges of global climate change, then private sector needs to do it instead.
