The Cost of Subdivisions
We are living in what he called the suburban experiment, which is where we build essentially subdivisions on the edges of town for people to buy homes and live in. The problem is that once you get so many of these subdivisions spread out over such a large area, it actually costs more to maintain than it does to bring in revenue. Charles describes it as, after the third essential wave of construction, that the whole system collapses because there's just not enough money in order to pay for anything at that point. After 75 years, you now have three different cycles, which have to be paid for, and there's no possible way you could ever build enough new subdivisions or new fees,.
