Zen Kyoto and Zen Gaku-Ren in the 1960s
The Zen Kyoto was a non-sectarian movement that often built itself in direct opposition to the old left of Marxism more generally. The tactics adopted by the Zen Kyoto were often based on Zen Gaku-ren ones, including initially things like sit-ins and hunger strikes. One large Zen Kyoto occupation at Wasedi University in 1967 dragged on for 150 days of stalemate with the administrators refusing to discuss anything with the students.
