Miriam Kate: We need an industrial policy that prefers our own. That includes planning, yes, in terms of what regions are going to be good at what. I think this is where it does come down to political and cultural choices about, are we going to prefer our industries? Is there an economic, cultural and social and political benefit from producing our own? If so, then we have to be intentional about taking away the barriers that, that, that allow these industries to flourish.
