In 19 forty nine, communist leader mazadong's rebellion was succeeding. As his forces closed in on the nationalist government of china, they all fled to tiwan. Soon the communists and nationalists were facing off on the teeny, tiny island of kinmen. The battle lasted for three days. It was a complete disaster for the communist forces from the mainland. Every single one of the soldiers who landed was either killed or captured. Despite the victory, the nationalists started to dig in and to fortify kenmen island.
