Bayesianism and the Pretender to the Throne
The standard modern academic take on these things and it even came up in that other book that I'm going through at the moment Stephen Pink is rationality. We say we can know something on this view if we are justified in believing the claim to be true. This is not objective but subjective. So that's a vision of knowledge condemned to subjectivity. The more modern incantation of this tries to rescue things by mathematically this notion and it's called Bayesianism. Here we do not give up the notion of justified true beliefs. We just take on a new character for the justifications.
