There is one project that was going on probably during James Allison's watch. Project Darkstar uses additive manufacturing to create huge changes. The heat exchange or technology is being used in intercoolers for the V6 turbo hybrid era. They potentially allow them to use significantly lower mass flow rate for their cooling system than other teams would have to for the same heat load.
