The Role of Political Leaders in Squatter Settlements
The communities that we study are squatter settlements in two North Indian cities. These are my migrant communities that have kind of migrated into the city and squatted on available land. About three quarters of the residents that we sampled in across these communities are first generation so when you're thinking about them think, you know, these are newly settled by people who are coming from usually outside the city. They are incredibly poor and informal so well over 95% of them lack formal employment.
