Emily's Letters to Susan
In these letters, Emily is stripped of the measured and economic prose of the Higginson letters. In a letter from June of 1852, Emily mentions that she has not seen Susan in almost a year but that the thought she will be seeing her soon fills her with tears. Her emotions are conveyed in their raw vulnerability, without editing, as they stream forth.
