Last year some 3.2 billion people played video games worldwide. Gaming is now much bigger every year in terms of its value than the cinema box office. Consumers are going to spend about $185 billion this year just on gaming content. And as it comes to rival television as the main entertainment medium, I think the question is how is this going to affect society?
These days the gaming industry takes in much more than the global cinema box office. We ask how things are changing, from gamers’ demographics to the games’ content. And a year after our last conversation with Dmytro, a heartsick resident of the besieged Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, we check back in to see how he has been.
