The idea is to build a protocol into smart contracts that allow the creators to be on band lists or an allow list,. It can get messy with a the centralization aspect. But it's a lot cheaper to add an a contract address that can't be traded to a contract than it is to deploy a bunch of contracts for a market place so that's one option.
