The term Montessori is not regulated. So basically any school can affiliate itself with Montessori and there aren't any real checks and balances to make sure that the curriculum is standard. There have been some culty prep schools that have spun off of the Montessori method, just like a religion can have culty sects that spin off of that. It's essentially this method of making what was supposed to be a really like homemade and self sustained method of teaching into something that costs more money than it should.
