What Is the Crown Jewel of the Philosophy of Commerce?
Things in the mediaeval world were understood to have a fair price. If you were a merchant making profit, that meant probably that you were charging more than the fair price for things. Making a lot of profit was understood to be a sign of price gouging and a exploitation. This way of thinking about commerce wasn't necessarily universal to everybody in the middle ages. But we know that it was common among the church, who saw themselves as the enforcers of morality.
