In recent decades, there's been a push in public discourse towards talking about one's emotions more specifically. A lot of this originates with the rise of psychoanalysis in the 20th century. But therapy is to this day often still only accessible to people of a certain income status. And so there's this entrenchment of machismo culture and the sense that men don't need to talk about emotions among lower income folks.
