Lenin's New Economic Policy
The famine of 1921 gives Lenin a new opportunity to attack. He accuses the clergy of hoarding and doubles down on his bid to dismantle the Russian Orthodox Church. To many, this new economic policy looks like a return to capitalism. But it was hugely divisive when in the party. It also marks a sea change in Lenin's attitude to revolution overseas.
