US approval of Newscales SMR was a very welcome first step in that direction. The private sector is already more than ready to build advanced new reactor designs and make nuclear energy much safer than it ever was before. We subsidize wind and solar, so why not geothermal? Supercritical deep geothermal is even more compelling than nuclear power if we can break through the technological barriers which make it impossible today. Step number five is to continue aggressively building wind and solar energy capacity. No matter what energy source we choose, increasing thermal efficiency is just as important as increasing energy supply.
