Meditation as a Mental Gymnastics, Good for One's Health

With the recent popularity of mindfulness, people tend to look at it as a kind of mental gymnastics. This is not necessarily mistaken, but it can make meditation feel like just another thing one is doing wrong. And i see it very strongly in my patients, especially in the world of addiction and recovery. I've had this discussion with joseph goldstein and various meditation teachers. Everyone doesn't agree with me. It matters a lot when i'm working,. i'm sitting, like, eight to ten hours a day, because being a psychotherapist is, is all about sitting. Is that any different how we're paying attention when we're meditating? I don't think so
